DUA’AS

MAWLAA IMAM ALI IBNA ABI TALIB SAYS :

Put faith in Alla. Seek his protection.  Direct your prayers, requests, solicitations and supplications to Him and Him

alone.

To give as well as to withhold lies in His(only in His) power.

Ask as much of His favours as you can.

Know that Allah owns the treasures of the heavens and the earth.  Not only He has given permission to ask for His mercy and

favours, but also has pro9mised to listen to your prayers.  He has not appointed guards to prevent your prayers reaching Him.

Invoke His help in difficulties and distress.  Implore Him to grant you long life and sound health.  Pray to Him for

prosperity.

Think over it that by simply granting you the privilege of praying for His favours and mercy, He has handed over the keys of

His treasures to you.  Whenever, you re in need, pray and He gives His favours and blessings.

Sometimes you find requests are not immediately granted.  Do not be disappointed.  Fulfilment of desires rests with the true

propose or intention of the prayer.  More often fulfillment is delayed because the Merciful Lord wants to bestow upon you

suitable rewards.  In the meantime, bear patiently hardships, believing sincerely in His help.  You will get better favours,

because, unknowingly, you may ask for things which are really harmful to you.  Many of your requests, if granted, may bring

eternal damnation.

So, at times, withholding fulfillment is a blessing in disguise.

DUA’A 4

If you want to seek divine favour and guidance before doing or undertaking any work there are a few procedures, given in the

following dua’a as known as istikharah.

Shaykh al Tusi has advised the seeker of istikhara to have a bath pray a 2 rakat salat and after the salam go into sajdah and

recite 3 times :
ASTAKHEERULLAAHA FEE JAMEE-I UMOOREE KULLIHAA KHIYARATAN FEE AA’AFIYATIN

After reciting the du-a’a do what you feel just and suitable.

DUA’A 5 :

It is reported that Imam Sahib al Zaman has advised the believers to seek istikhara as under :

(i) keep in mind the task with the intention of doing it.
(ii) recite salawat 3 tinmes.

ALLAAHUMMA S’ALLI A’LAA MUH’AMMADIN WA AALI MUHA’AMMAD

(iii) hold a rosary(trasbih) at any place in your left hand anf from there with the right hand, start moving two beads at a

time.  If only one bead remains in the end do what you want to do and if two beads are left do not do it.  Doing or not doing

is optional not compulsory.

DUA’A 6

Refer to du-a’a 5 and do as under:

(i) keep in mind the task with the intention of not doing it

(ii) recite salawat as given in (ii) of du-a’a 5
(iii) do as advised in (iii) of du-a’a but if two beads are left in the end the work has to be done.  It becomes obligatory

to carry it out, otherwise there is every likelihood of loss and deprivation.

A’LAYHI FAAMURNEE WA ILLAA FANHANEE INNAKA A’LAA KULLI SHAY-IN QADEER.

SUBH’AANALLAAH, ALH’AMDULILLAH, LA ILAAHA ILLALLAAH on three heads one by one, continue it till you reach the end.  If the

last bead ends with SUBH’AANALLAAH it means ‘neither good nor bad”. If it ends with ALH’AAMDULILLAAH IT MEANS GOOD.  And if

DU-A’AS OF ISTIGHFAR

Istighfaar means seeking forgiveness of Allah for the sins so far committed and turning repentant unto Allah.

Ibn Abbas relates that the was in the company of Imam Ali when a man came and said Mawla, I have transgressed much “Imam Ali

told him: PRAY ISTIGHFAAR.  Another man came and said : Mawla my land has become arid and parched, what shall I do ?.  Imam

Ali told him PRAY ISTIGHFAR.  After a few moments another came and sia Mawla I am poverty stricken.  Nothing I do bearts

fruit.  Is there any remedy.  Imam Ali said: PRAY ISTIGHFAR.  Then another man came and said : Mawla Alla has not yet blessed

me with a child.  What should I do.  Imam Ali told him PRAY ISTIGHAFAR.

I asked him : O AMIRUL MUMININ - though the problems were different, but to each of them you advised to pray ISTIGHFAAR.

Imam Ali said : Because Allah says in surah Nuh: And I said : seek forgiveness of your Lord.  Verily he is ever most

forgiving.  He will send you abundant rain from the heaven and will help you with wealth and sons, and will make for you

gardens and will make for your rivers.

To seek forgiveness of Allah recite surah Ali Imran

DUA’A 23

Imam Jafar bin Muhammad as Sadiq said:

1) He who has intended to do good but could not, is credited with the good in his record of good deeds.

(2) He who intends to do good and actually does so will receive tenfold of reward determined for that one good deed.

Contd..7

(3) He who intends to do wrong but does not put it into practice will not be asked for any explanation.

(4) He who intends to do evil and actually does so, has an hour at his disposal to turn repentant unto Allah.  The angel who

records good deeds asks the angel who records evil deeds to wait.  May be the sinner does a good deed which wipes out the

evil deed  done by him.

Verily good deeds take away evil deeds.

If he repents and recites the following istighfar his sin will not be recorded.

ASTAGHFIRUL-LAAHAL LAD’EE LAA ILAAHA ILLAA HUWA A’ALIMUL GHAYBI WASH SHAHADAATIL A’ZEEZUL H’AKEEMUL GHAFOORUL RAH’EEM D’UL

JALAALI WAL IKRAAMI WA ATOOBU ILAYHI.

DUA’A 24

According to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib - Ibn Babawayh al-Qummi says the following du-a’a gives strength and assurance of faith

to do good and avoid evil.  If it is recited three times by the end of evening the whole night till morning becomes a

protected period during which no evil comes near the reciter.

FA-SUBH’AANALLAAHI H’EENA TUMSOONA WA H’EENA TUS’BIH’OON.
WA LAHUL H’AMDU FIS SAMAAWAATI WAL ARZ’I WA A’SHIYYAW WA H’EENA TUZ’HIROON.

DUA’A 25

According to Imam Jafar bin Muihammad as Sadiq, Ibn Babawayh and Muhammad Kulayni say, whoever recites the following du-a’a

10 times every day receives equal to the recompense of 45000 good deeds; moreover 45000 evil deeds from his record of deeds

will be deleted and his rank in the life of the hereafter will be raised by 45000 degrees.  This, du-a’a also serves as an

impregnable fortress against the evil designs of the men in power.  It also gives strength and assurance of faith to do good

and avoid evil.  It is also said that the rewards of reciting this du-a’a is equal to the recompense of reciting the whole

Quran 12 times.

ASH-HADU AN LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAHU WAH’DAHOO LAA SHAREEKA LAHOO ILAAHAN WAAH’IDAN AH’ADAN S’AMADAN LAM YATTAKHID S’AAH’IBATAW

WA LAA WALADAA.

DUA’A 26

The Holy Prophet said that if the du-a’a is recited every day it gives strength and reward and zeal to keep the true faith as

the part and parcel of the life in this world.

prophets of Allah and be sure that not a single believer known to him is displeased with him, before going to sleep, every

night.  He then explained to her :

(i)  To recite surah al Ikhlas thrice is equal to reciting the whole Quran

(ii) When once recites salawat on him the holy Prophet it secures the intercession of all the prophets of Allah.

DUA’A 50

It is reported on the authority of the Holy Prophet that there are many groups and formations of the spirits, and the spirit

(run) of a mumin (believer) is closely associated with the spirits of the prophets and the Ahl ul Bayt. Those spirits who are

known to each other in this world remain consciously aware of one another in the other world of spirits when they go from

here(die).  Those who have gone to the realm of the spirits sometimes make contact with the people they knew here.

According to many reliable traditions the spirit of a mumin dwells with the spirits of the holy and the pious.  When pure

spirit is deposited or caged in the body then the influence of the human organism gives birth to satanic tendencies, but the

spirits of those who are very near to Allah remain in contact with the higher spirits of the other world and receive guidance

and blessings agt every step in this world.

Contd..13

The thoroughly deprives slaves of the satan, having lost their contact with the higher spirits go astray and all doors of

goodness and guidance are closed upon them.

There are another type of people who were in contact with the higher spirits, but tempted by the satanic influences go in for

immoral desires and pleasures, yet their conscience, at random, calls their attention to the path of goodness and virtue.

The sin, and then turn repentant to Allah, seek His forgiveness and pardon.  Because of their involvement with the immoral

satanic association the spirits of the prophets and the Ahl ul Bayt keep them at a distance, but when they sleep the good

spirits, known to them hearken them to the path of goodness and piety, because in sleep their association with the satanic

influences does not have an upper hand.  As the sleep becomes more and more sound, the spirit feels free from the satanic

spell and tries to reach the divine kingdom.  At that time, whatever a mumin drams is free from falsehood.

ALLAD’EENA AAMANOO WA KAANOO YATTAQOON LAHUMUL BUSHRAA FIL H’AYYATID DUNYAA WA FIL AAKHIRAH

According to Imam Muhammad bin Ali al Baqir the good news in the life of this world refers to the good dreams and the

happiness which they give to the dreamers

As the soundness of sleep reaches its highest point at the end of the night the higher spirits communicate to the dreamer and

inspite him to get of  bed, turn repentant to Allah and seek his forgiveness. His is the time of praying tahajjud (see our

book) the prayers) In praise of this hour the following verse has been revealed.

INNA NAASHI-ATAL LAYLI HIYA ASHADDU WAT’AW WA AQWAMU QEELAA

Those who avail this hour reach nearness to Allah and remain in contact with the higher spirits who show them the path to

goodness and piety and keep them safe from the clutches of the satanic sway.
